 Misc Tutorials

This is the place to come when you have a tutorial, but have no idea where to post it. Or, alternatively, when you have a tutorial that suits a lot of different mediums.

This is a tutorial I've tried out from Matter of Scrap Digital Scrapbooking.

This tutorial helps you get a grungey effect for your text. it's done in Photoshop Elements 4.0, but I have CS3 and it worked fine for me. Some things you may have to tweak, but it's essentially translatable.

This is what I got: [image]

And the bits I had to tweak were:

Quote:
Right click on the layer in the layers palette and SIMPLIFY LAYER. This flattens the layer and rasterizes it so that the text is no longer editable.

I had to right click on the layer and 'Rasterize Type'.

Quote:
There are many brushes available to use and here we want the FAUX FINISH brushes. Select these by clicking on the dropdown arrow for the brush presets in the brush palette and find the faux finish brushes. Choose the ROLLED RAG – TERRY 120 PIXELS brush.

I used a splatter brush, and then a star brush, both downloaded.

Quote:
Now for the finishing touch. Click one of the layers in the layers palette (it doesn’t matter which) and use the TRANSFORM TOOL (keyboard shortcut – V) to make that layer just the slightest bit smaller. Move it a few pixels to the left or right and up or down. You will have a look now that gives the ‘stamp’ a smudge-y effect!

I copied one of the layers, pasted it into a new image, resized it slightly bigger than it was, and then dragged it back on, moving it to one side.

Hopefully that's all OK, give it a try!

This is something I orginally posted in the Icon Tuts thread, but there are some general misc ones too, such as text and blends. It's a forum, primarily for Narnia news, but has a thread for fan art tutorials.

NarniaWeb: Fan Art Tutorials. it's got some good tricks and hints, although i've yet to try any out.
